Description

Holme Cottage is an early 17th-century house situated in Wyton, near Houghton. It originally comprised three units, although it has an 18th or 19th-century facade. The building is timber-framed and rendered, with a steeply pitched slate roof and a large ridge stack on the left-hand side. The front elevation features two casement windows with side panels, which served as shutters, to the left of a six-panelled door. The door is topped by a semi-circular fan-light set within a continuous round-headed architrave.

Inside, the cottage retains three inglenook hearths and chamfered ceiling beams. The roof is a good example of a side purlin roof, incorporating wind braces in each bay and re-used tie-beams, originating from an early medieval building.
