Description

York House is an 18th-century house dated 1785, as evidenced by a brick found in the north gable stack. It is located on the west side of High Street in Buckden. The building has a symmetrical facade and an L-shaped plan with an outshut in the angle. It is two storeys high with attics. The exterior is red brick with a plain tile roof, shallow parapet gables, and end stacks. It features a dentil brick eaves cornice and a brick plinth. A rubbed brick band runs between the floors. Five hung sash windows with glazing bars are set within flush frames, each with a gauged brick arch. The half-glazed front door has an architrave, panelled reveals, plain pilasters, and dentil enrichment to the cornice. The interior contains 19th-century details and some 18th-century doors.
