Description

The Outer Gateway and Boundary Wall, located at No. 50 High Street in Buckden, is a late 15th-century gatehouse constructed of red brick and featuring a square plan with an embattled parapet. It is a single-storey structure. Both the inner and outer arches are four-centred and have two chamfered orders along with moulded labels. The embattled enclosing wall includes a corner diagonal buttress, which has been recently restored and topped with a pyramidal cap. Each face of the buttress features a small trefoiled niche. To the south of the gateway, there is a 19th-century lodge with windows that have been inserted into the wall.
