Description
Fullards Farmhouse is a house dating from the mid 18th century, with early 19th-century alterations and mid 19th-century extensions. It is constructed of colourwashed brick and features a 20th-century tile roof with brick end stacks. The house has a central staircase plan with a parallel rear wing that is partly from the 19th century, along with a single-storey extension. It stands two storeys high with an attic and has a three-window range on the first floor, featuring 2/2 sashes under segmental brick arches. There is a similar sash on the ground floor beneath a tall brick arch, flanked by a central moulded doorcase with a flat hood supported by slim iron columns. The doorcase is early 19th century, while the door itself is mid 18th century and part-glazed. The eaves of the house have a brick dentil cornice.
The right gable end has an attic casement and a sash on the rear wing, with evidence in the brickwork indicating where the wing and stack were raised. The left end also has an attic casement, while the rear features sashes, casements, and a French window.
Inside, the entrance hall showcases a fine open-well stick baluster staircase with a ramped and wreathed handrail and shaped tread ends. The balustrade has an attractive curve on the landing, and the stair is now enclosed as it ascends to the attic. The ground floor doors are four-panel, while those on the first floor are two-panel, all maintaining mid 18th-century proportions. The attic has plank doors, with visible timber-framed partitions. The rear wing has a mid 19th-century character, but a large fireplace hood in one bedroom over the kitchen fireplace suggests it was originally a single-storey and attic wing from the mid 18th century, raised in the mid 19th century. This aligns with the changes seen in the brickwork on the exterior right gable end. Fullards Farmhouse is a notable example of renewal and improvement over time, with its original mid 18th-century features evident in the tall front window heads, door proportions, and two-panel doors, followed by a new staircase and other enhancements in the early 19th century, along with the rear wing's extension and raising in the mid 19th century to accommodate more residents.
