Description

Shortsands House is an early 19th-century house with mid-19th century additions at each end and a modern extension to the south. The original part of the house is a two-storey, double-fronted building with three windows. It has a hipped, slated roof featuring moulded brick chimneys in a Tudor style. The exterior is roughcast brick and includes a parapet with moulded coping, pilasters, and quoins. Segmental arched sash windows contain glazing bars. A Greek Doric prostyle portico leads to an architraved doorway with a panelled door. The garden front has three-window bows flanking a central doorway, which features an arched radial fanlight and a bracketted hood over the panelled door. The hallway contains an open-well geometrical staircase with carved brackets.
