Description

Nos 24 and 26 on Post Street in Godmanchester are 17th century or late 16th century buildings. They are two storeys high, with a timber-framed structure featuring a lower storey made of gault brick and an upper storey finished in cement. The tile roof has an upper storey that projects over the street front, supported by brackets in a jetty style. A prominent original central chimney stack has grouped diagonal shafts, and the original bargeboards are visible on the south gable end. The ground floor has two 19th century sash windows with shutters, while the upper floor features three sash windows with glazing bars. The entrance includes a six-panel door with two glazed panels, framed by pilasters and topped with a cornice. No 24 is a mid-18th century infill, also two storeys high with a two-bay front made of butt brick. It has 19th century sash windows with gauged arches and a thin panelled pilaster doorcase, topped by a tiled roof.
