Description
The Meeting House, dated 1874, was rebuilt from a building originally constructed in 1787. It is located on Bluntisham High Street and is made of red brick with reddened brick dressings, featuring patterned roof tiles. The structure is two stories tall, with a single-storey tripartite vestibule on the west side and a vestry on the east. It has gable roofs adorned with ornate barge boards and pendant finials. The windows are arranged in pairs of three lights, set in segmental arches with keystones and chamfered reveals.
Inside, there is a gallery with a carved pine balustrade supported by wooden Doric columns. The carpentry work is attributed to John Wheatley, who lived from 1812 to 1888 and was from Bluntisham. The interior also features a carved oak pulpit, table, and four chairs made by P A Humphrey, who passed away in 1960, also from Bluntisham. A staircase from the 18th century, originally from the first meeting house, is located in the vestry. The Meeting House is included for its historic interest as a traditional center of local non-conformity.
