Description
Nos. 2 and 3 The Bower are a row of two cottages built around 1750, with the cottage on the left added slightly later, around 1760. No. 2 is constructed of gault brick in English bond, now painted, and features a reed thatch roof with parapetted gable ends and end stacks. The layout consists of two rooms on either side of a narrower stair and hall bay, with an outshut at the rear. The building is one storey with an attic and has two dormers. The original window openings have segmental arches but now contain later windows on either side of the doorway. No. 3, which is slightly later and also made of gault brick in English bond, has a pantiled roof with a tumbled parapet gable end and an end stack. This cottage has a single room plan with an outshut at the rear, is one storey with an attic, and has one dormer. It features segmental arches for both the window opening and the doorway, which retains its original six raised and fielded panelled door. Inside, there are some contemporary panelled doors and vertical panelling from the 18th century on the staircase partitioning at the first floor.
