Description
The Church of St John is a parish church built in 1872 by T. H. Wyatt. It features rock-faced rustication and cement tiled roofs, topped at the west end by a diagonally set bell turret with a timber spirelet. The church comprises a nave, north and south aisles, and a south porch. It has similar 13th-century style windows and openings as St Peter's and St Mary's, which are also located in March and designed by the same architect. The north and south arches each have four gabled windows with two trefoil lights and foiled heads. Inside, the nave arcade consists of four bays with two-centred arches that have one roll and one hollow moulded order on short, round columns with crocketed capitals. The chancel arch is also two-centred, featuring an inner order on short, ring-shafted columns supported by moulded corbels. The nave has a scissor-braced roof, and there is a marble pulpit along with a font in the 13th-century style.
