Description
2 Ashley Road and the attached gate piers are part of a pair of gatelodge cottages built in the late 19th century for Cheveley Park. The cottages have an irregular cruciform plan and are single-storey structures designed in the Queen Anne Revival Style. They are constructed of red brick and feature Flemish gables on each of the four arms, a moulded brick eaves cornice, and a limestone string at window sill level. Two of the gables display finely carved brick achievements. The roofs are covered with plain tiles and have an axial chimney made of red brick.
Two of the gables include a splayed bay with a hipped plain-tiled roof and casement windows, which originally had small panes. The entrance porch is recessed and has a segmental arched head made of gauged brick with carved spandrels. Above the porch is a flat lead-roofed canopy supported by prominent and richly carved wooden console brackets.
On the north-east side, the cottages are linked by short brick walls to each other and to the cottage. There are also a pair of 2.5-meter high banded square gate piers made of finely-gauged red brick, each topped with a moulded limestone capping that once had a ball finial.
