Description
Rous Memorial Cottages (south wing) is a row of four cottages that were formerly almshouses, built around 1878. This south wing is part of a group of three detached ranges that form an open court. The cottages are designed in the Queen Anne Revival style and are single-storey structures made of red brick, featuring a moulded brick eaves cornice. At the eastern end, there is a pediment with intricate red brick carving, displaying a coat of arms and motto within a classical frame. A gablet facing Vicarage Road showcases painted half-timbering with a panel featuring a floral plasterwork motif. The cottages have plaintiled roofs with axial chimneys made of red brick. They also feature splayed flat-roofed bay windows that alternate with small-pane casements, and each cottage has a five-panelled entrance door topped with a flat canopy supported by brackets.
