Description
The Rous Memorial Cottages (north wing), consisting of four cottages, were built in 1878 as almshouses. They form the north wing of a group of three detached ranges that create an open court and are designed in the Queen Anne Revival style. The cottages are single-storey and constructed from red brick, featuring a moulded brick eaves cornice. At the east end, there is a pediment with intricate red brick carving, including a coat of arms and motto within a classical frame. A gablet facing Vicarage Road showcases painted half-timbering and a panel with a floral plasterwork motif. The roofs are covered with plain tiles and have axial chimneys made of red brick. The cottages feature splayed flat-roofed bay windows that alternate with small-pane casements, and each has a five-panelled entrance door topped with a flat canopy supported by brackets.
