Description

The Haddenham War Memorial, erected in 1921, commemorates the residents of Haddenham who died in both the First and Second World Wars. The memorial is rectangular and constructed of granite, taking the form of a Celtic wheel cross standing on a tapered, rusticated plinth and a stepped base. The east face of the shaft and plinth includes the painted inscription "LEST WE FORGET // IN MEMORY OF THE MEN / OF HADDENHAM / WHO MADE THE SUPREME SACRIFICE / DURING THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918," followed by a list of 34 names. The west face of the plinth bears a similar inscription, remembering those who died in the Second World War (1939–1945) and listing 12 names. The memorial is set within stone paving and occupies a prominent location on a small green at the intersection of The Green, Station Road, Hop Row and High Street.
