Description
This building is a cottage located at 57 High Street, dating from the early 18th century, with remodelling from the late 18th to early 19th century. The structure features early 18th century red brick in an irregular bond on part of the end wall, while the front wall and rebuilt gable end are made of Haddenham gault brick in Flemish bond. It has a plain tiled mansard roof, with pantiles on the upper pitch and tumbled gable ends. The cottage is one storey with an attic, featuring two dormers that have leaded roofs with scalloped edging above 19th century sixteen-pane hung sashes. There are segmental arches over two flush frame hung sashes: one is an early 19th century sixteen-pane window, and the other is a later replacement with a single central glazing bar. The central doorway is framed by an early 19th century reeded doorcase, which has decorative boss enrichments at the corners and a moulded cornice with a narrow hood. The door itself is a six-panelled design with a reeded surround on the two lower panels. The north end wall displays three iron ties with the initials M I R.
