Description

A row of cottages located on Main Street, Witchford, likely originating in the 17th century, but largely rebuilt in the late 18th or early 19th century. The cottages are constructed of brick with a reed thatched roof, and may have a timber-framed core. The original ridge stack, with two flues, has been rebuilt in brick, along with a smaller ridge and end stack. The cottages are one storey and attic in height, with two dormers visible on number 93.

Number 89 features an early 19th-century doorway with a moulded architrave and a raised and fielded panelled door. A narrow hood is placed above the door, flanked by two fixed three-light windows with small panes and narrow glazing bars; the left-hand window has a pivoting central light. Number 91 exhibits a similar doorway and doorcase, including a panelled frieze and a hood above the door. This door is also panelled with two small glazed upper lights and has panelled reveals. One three-light fixed window is accompanied by a casement within a segmental arch. Number 93 mirrors these details with an early 19th-century doorway within a segmental arch, flanked by two three-light fixed windows set in segmental arches. At the east end, the remnants of framing from a demolished building are visible, including a section of wall plate.
