Description

The Church of St Andrew is a parish church located on Witchford Main Street. It features a 13th-century west tower and a nave and chancel dating from 1376. The church is constructed from field and rubblestone with dressed limestone dressings, topped with a plain tiled roof that has an end parapet at the chancel. The layout includes a west tower, an aisleless nave, and a chancel. The three-stage embattled west tower has 18th-century gault brick repairs, lacks a plinth, and is unbuttressed, with dressed limestone quoins. The restored west window consists of two lights in two-centred arches, with similar paired lights in the bell stage.

The nave features three windows, each with three cinquefoil lights and Decorated tracery in two-centred arches with labels. There are continuous double-chamfered doorways on the north and south sides. The nave's buttressing is offset, and the canted west walls connect to the west tower with a single lancet. The chancel includes an east window with three lights and Decorated tracery.

Inside, the nave has a 17th-century staggered butt purlin roof. The 13th-century two-centred tower arch is partly blocked, while the chancel arch is two-centred and consists of two chamfered orders, with the inner order resting on engaged shafts with moulded capitals. Flanking the chancel arch are two niches from the 14th to 15th centuries, and there is a low side window in the south wall. The font, dating from the 13th century, is made of limestone and features a tapering octagon on a column with a splayed lower edge and a moulded holdwater base.
