Description

Nos. 25 and 27 on Lode Road are cottages dating from the mid to late 17th century, featuring a four-bay layout with a lobby entry plan. In the 19th century, the cottage was divided into two separate units. The structure is timber framed and plaster rendered, topped with a thatched roof made of long straw. It has an original yellow brick chimney stack that includes a recessed date panel below a string course. The building is one storey high with attics and includes one dormer. The four windows and the door leading to the lobby entry were all replaced in the 20th century. Inside No. 27, both bays have main beams that are stop-chamfered. There is also a bread oven located beside the inglenook in No. 27, along with a small internal room from the 19th century, which has walls made of clay bat.
