Description
The Cambridge Union Society Building, located on Bridge Street, was constructed in 1866 by architect A. Waterhouse. It features a well-planned forecourt and is built of red brick with colored bands and stone dressings. The building has undergone several additions, including the North Wing in 1885 and further modifications in the mid-20th century. The interior was remodeled in 1933-1934 and again in 1949, showcasing Venetian Gothic detailing. Notable architectural features include 2-light windows with attached columns between, a pointed arched doorway with an oriel window above, and a buttressed ground floor. The building also has detailed cornices at the first floor and eaves level, along with a tiled roof that includes gables and finials.
