Description

Entrance gateway to the 1. 942 university Library onto Burrell's Walk TL 4458 16/448 II 2. 1935. Contemporary with Clare memorial Court and probably part of Sir G G Scott's design (qv Clare College). Low buff brick, stone capped wall topped by wrought iron screen. 2 buff brick piers with ball finials. Wrought iron gates with overthrow. Arms of J G Nightingale on overthrow. The gates are early /mid C18 and come originally from Rectory Manor House, Enfield, Middlesex. (RCHM 21). (See also the Gateway to Trinity Fellows' Garden under Trinity College).
