Description
The entrance gateway to the University Library, built in 1935, is located on Burrell's Walk. It is contemporary with Clare Memorial Court and is likely part of Sir George Gilbert Scott's design for Clare College. The gateway features a low wall made of buff brick, which is capped with stone and topped by a wrought iron screen. There are two buff brick piers with ball finials on either side. The wrought iron gates, which include an overthrow, display the arms of J. G. Nightingale. These gates date from the early to mid-18th century and originally came from Rectory Manor House in Enfield, Middlesex.
