Description

15 Market Hill is a house and shop, now functioning as a shop and workshop, built around 1840. It is constructed of Flemish bond brick and features a slate mansard roof. The building stands four storeys high, with a two-window range facing Market Hill and a three-window range on the Rose Crescent side. The rear elevation of Rose Crescent has a three-storey, two-window range, which continues as a terrace row forming Nos 1 to 11 Rose Crescent.

The building has a mid-19th century wooden cornice and a blocking course above a mid-20th century shop front. There are flat gauged brick arches over 12-pane sash windows. The front corner facing Market Hill is rounded and features scrolled brackets that support a plain wrought-iron balcony above first-floor French windows, which are set in moulded and pedimented stone architraves. The late 19th-century four-pane sash windows on the second floor are also set in similar architraves with scroll-brackets to the cornice, and there are flat gauged brick arches over similar third-floor sashes. Moulded stone cornices are present throughout. The interior has no notable features. This building is included for its group value.
