Description
No. 5 Market Hill is a late 17th-century building that stands three storeys tall with attics. The front is tile hung and features a modern slate roof. On the second floor, there are two windows, and on the first floor, there are two windows along with a central doorway that opens onto a balcony adorned with attractive wrought iron railings. The windows have modern sashes, and the doorway is topped with a shell hood supported by carved brackets, featuring a cartouche shield with cherubs and dated 1688. Inside, the front room on the first floor boasts a fine ornamental plaster ceiling, also dated 1688, which is likely the work of Henry Doogood. This room is lined with bolection-moulded panelling. The exterior includes a parapet with a modillion cornice and one attic dormer. There is a modern shop front at the ground level.
