Description
The Roger Ascham School Double Classroom is a single-storey building designed in 1927 by G.W. Teasdale, the borough architect. It features a rectangular plan and is constructed of Flemish bond red brick with a hipped plain tile roof that has deep eaves. The building consists of two detached classrooms, with the south front and the east and west sides fitted with large opening windows. There is a folding partition between the classrooms, and a later 20th-century extension has been added to the northeast.
The south front has six bays, with large glazed double doors in the second and fifth bays, and large four-light folding windows with glazing bars in the first, third, fourth, and sixth bays. The design includes brick risers below the windows, brick corner piers, and wooden posts between the bays. The sides of the building feature large six-light folding windows with glazing bars and top lights. Inside, there is a panelled folding partition with a panelled and glazed door separating the two classrooms, and the floors are finished with parquet.
