Description
The Roger Ascham School Classrooms 1, 2 and 3 are open-air classrooms built in 1927 by G W Teasdale, the borough architect. They are constructed of Flemish bond red brick and feature a hipped plain tile roof with deep eaves. The classrooms are arranged as three detached, rectangular, almost square structures, with large opening windows on the south, east, and west sides. There are small later 20th-century extensions at the rear.
The exterior is single-storey with a three-bay south front that includes large glazed double doors in the center bay, flanked by sidelights and large four-light folding windows with glazing bars on either side. The brick risers below the windows, brick corner piers, and wooden posts between the bays contribute to the design. The sides of the classrooms have large six-light folding windows with glazing bars and top lights. At the rear, there are small flat roof extensions.
Inside, each classroom consists of a single rectangular space, glazed on three sides and ceiled.
