Description

The Headmaster's House at The Leys School, built around 1820, is a two-storey building constructed of grey gault brick on a stone plinth. It features a three-bay front, with the side bays projecting and topped with pediments. The house has sash windows with glazing bars. A single-storey stone screen across the central bay forms a porch supported by two Doric columns. There is an original two-storey bay on the south front and a continuous wide projecting eaves cornice on shaped brackets. The roof is slate. Inside, the house boasts a fine staircase, good doorways and fireplaces, enriched plaster cornices, and barrel-vaulted cellars. There are later additions, including a bay window on the east and a single-storey, two-window projection on the north.
