Description
Emmanuel College's North Court, built between 1910 and 1914 by Leonard Stokes, features a remarkable design that evolved from his earlier convent at London Colney in 1906. The building showcases austere vertical lines that are softened by the varied textures of the stonework. The cloister is styled after the work of Sedding. The main block consists of three storeys with an attic, and the dormers are topped with curvilinear scrolled pediments. The "flat" Perpendicular windows on the first and second floors are vertically aligned, while the ground floor is faced in ashlar. The entrances are adorned with broad cambered hoods.
