Description
The Railway Station, built in 1845 and designed by architect Sancton Wood, is constructed of white gault brick and features a stone bracket cornice. The building has 15 tall round-headed arches, of which only the five northernmost remain open; the central six arches have been fully enclosed with semi-circular fanlights, while the four southernmost arches are partially enclosed with open heads. Stone roundels in the spandrels of the arches display coats of arms of the colleges, the City, and various City officials from that time. The original design of the station underwent significant alterations in 1863.
