Description
The Cambridge City Branch Library, dated 1897, is a single-storey building constructed of red brick. It features eight bays divided by paired and single Corinthian pilasters. The façade includes eight four-light windows with brick mullions and transoms, each topped with drip-moulds and swag panels. A central panelled round-headed door is located beneath a gable that displays the date. On either side of the door, there are consoles and lions bearing arms. The roof is a double pitch covered with slate, featuring a skylight in between. The west end facing Mill Road showcases a Baroque church-style façade with two windows flanked by pilasters and a pediment above supported by consoles, which bears the words 'Free Library'.
