Description

Storey's Almshouses, dated 1844, are built in the Tudor style. The building is constructed of yellow brick with freestone dressings, incorporating string courses at the first-floor sill level and the parapet. Projecting porches are present, featuring pointed arches. The wall face of the porches projects upwards to form small gables, each bearing a blank shield. The almshouses are two storeys in height, with three-light mullion and transom windows on the ground floor, and two and three-light windows above. The roof is slate-covered, and the chimney stacks have grouped shafts. The building is described in the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments (RCHM) records. See also Shields Row.
