Description

The property is an early 19th century cottage and barn, linked and converted into a larger dwelling, with alterations made in 1986. The cottage is constructed of coursed rubble with flush ashlar quoins, and has cambered arches over most openings. Its roof is covered with Collyweston stone slates with gabled ends. The cottage, which forms the west wing, is two storeys high and set at a right angle to the road. It presents a symmetrical three-bay front, with two flush gable end stone stacks. A central doorway has a vertical boarded door. Early 19th century casement windows are found on both floors; these are three-light casements in the end bays, and a two-light casement on the first floor of the central bay. A three-bay barn, converted into the east wing, is at a right angle to the cottage and linked by an infill section to the cottage’s east gable. The main entrance is under a lean-to roofed porch in the infill block. Casements inserted into the former barn and infill match the early 19th century casements and have single horizontal glazing bars. Internal stone stacks are located at each end of the cottage.
