Description
Durobrivae is an early 18th century stone house with earlier origins, featuring a fine ashlar front that is two storeys high and has four bays. The front is adorned with a moulded stone cornice and giant corner pilasters. The windows and doorway are framed with rusticated architraves and voussoirs. The doorway, located to the left of centre, includes a rectangular fanlight and a glazed door. The house has a double span, steeply pitched Collyweston stone roof with coped gable ends and brick-topped stacks.
The house has been enlarged since the early 18th century and shows evidence of earlier masonry, including a 16th century two-light stone mullion window at the rear. Inside, there are plain 18th century panelled rooms with contemporary chimney pieces. The 18th century dogleg staircase features moulded balusters, a rail, and square newels. There is a kitchen wing to the north-west, which is a single storey stone range with a Collyweston stone roof. A pump is located against the south wall of the kitchen, encased in wood and lead, and bears the initials "S" over "WC 1772".
