Description

Sacrewell Mill, Mill House, and Stables is an early 18th-century mill house and water mill, dated 1755, located at right angles to each other. The buildings are constructed from coursed stone and feature steeply pitched Collyweston stone roofs. The mill house is a two-storey structure with an attic and has a three-window range. It includes 18th-century three-light casement windows with wooden lintels, a 19th-century door on the left, and three small hipped dormers with moulded cornices. The chimney stacks at the center and ends have been rebuilt in brick. At the rear, there is an outshut with a hipped dormer.

To the southwest, there is an 18th-century wing that forms an L-shaped plan, consisting of one storey and an attic, with two small gabled dormers and a steeply pitched Collyweston stone roof featuring coped gable ends. The water mill and stables are attached at right angles to the northwest, featuring a very steeply pitched hipped Collyweston stone roof, two storeys and an attic, and three gabled dormers, with a loft door situated above the ground floor door.

The mill contains complete machinery in working order, including a cast iron overshot wheel, a pit wheel, a great spur wheel, a timber main drive shaft, and a crown wheel. Two of the original three sets of stones remain, along with a chain hoist operated by the main drive on a windlass principle. The storage bins, chutes, and hopper are all intact. The stable wing, which is now a garage, is a long one-storey and attic range, also built of stone and topped with a Collyweston stone roof.
