Description
The Almsrooms, also known as Wortley's Almshouses, is a building located on the south side of Westgate in Peterborough. Constructed in 1837 in the Tudor style, it features a cartouche above the door that originates from a previous building dating back to 1744. The structure is L-shaped and made of stone and brick, topped with a roof of stone slate and Welsh slate. It stands two storeys high with attics and includes five gabled dormers, leaded casements, and intricately carved bargeboards and finials. The building has six windows, which consist of four-light 19th-century transoms and mullions with leaded casements. The Almsrooms forms a group with No 50 and is also part of a larger group that includes Nos 61 to 67 (odd), Nos 71 and 73, the premises occupied by FC Wright, Nos 81 to 93 (odd), the premises occupied by Westgate Cafe, and Nos 99 and 101.
