Description
High Town Methodist Church Hall was built as a chapel in 1852 and features a simplified classical style with some Italianate elements. Notably, the front displays an unusual use of brick architectural polychromy. The three-bay facade is flanked by brown brick, which is framed by slender giant pilasters made of stock brick, along with a cornice and parapet, all in red brick. The central entrance bay, made of brown brick, rises between the flanking entablatures and is topped by a blind attic with a triangular pediment. Each flanking bay has one window on each floor, set within a vertical reveal that reaches up to a flat gauged arch, with a Doric apron panel between the storeys. The central entrance features coupled round-headed doorways with heavy impost mouldings, a frieze, and a cornice topped with a triangular pediment. Above this, there is a tall round-headed window that extends into the attic, with a string course from the flanking entablatures that is broken back and arched over. The side elevations are simple, with tall narrow round-headed windows set in panels framed by shallow red brick piers and corbelled eaves.
