Description

The icehouse located in the grounds of Avenue House at 20 Church Street dates from around 1820 and was relined during the Victorian period. It is constructed of crude rubble masonry with a brick core and interior. The structure features a shallow dome shape and has a pointed rustic arch at the entrance, which is situated just below ground level to the south. Inside, there is a circular well chamber. The lower jambs of the entrance show some damage. The apex of the dome is pierced by a metal spout that once supported a decorative ball.
