Description

No. 128 High Street is a house that was formerly known as the Old George Inn. It has elements from the 17th century, 18th century, and 19th century. The building features a timber-framed structure, particularly substantial in its earlier parts, with most areas covered in colourwashed render. The roofs are made of clay tiles. The original section is located to the southeast, while a lower 19th-century block to the southwest creates an L-shaped plan. An 18th-century block projects from the west side of the earlier section.

The house is mostly two storeys high. On the southeast elevation, both the ground and first floors have two 19th-century sash windows, with the first-floor windows extending above the eaves level. There is a six-panel door beneath a flat hood supported by cut brackets, aligned with a red brick ridge stack that serves a back-to-back hearth, forming a lobby entrance.

On the southwest elevation, the first floor is tile-hung, featuring bands of fishscale tiles. The ground floor has two canted bays and one sash window on the left-hand side, while the first floor has three similar sash windows. A part-glazed door is situated between the two canted bays, and there is one red brick ridge stack along with an external brick stack at the right-hand end.
