Description
No. 43 High Street is a house and former blacksmith's shop dating from the 17th century and 19th century. The house features a timber frame with colourwashed plaster render, while the right-hand gable is constructed of brick. It has a thatched roof that is hipped at the left-hand end. The outbuilding, which was the former blacksmith's shop, projects from the left-hand side and is made of mottled red brick with a clay tile roof.
The house has a three-room plan and is one storey with attics. On the ground floor, there are two three-light casement windows with glazing bars and one single-light window. The attic includes three small dormer windows, all of which are two-light casements. The doorway is located between the two left-hand bays and features a four-panel door beneath a gabled open porch. This porch aligns with a red brick double ridge stack that serves a back-to-back hearth. The right-hand bay has a plank door set in a moulded surround, topped with a small gabled hood.
