Description
Cainhoe Manor is a house that dates from the late 16th century, with later alterations made in the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. The building is constructed of coursed ironstone rubble, red brick, gault brick, and colourwashed roughcast render over a timber frame, topped with clay tile roofs. The main block and the northern gable are two storeys high with attics, while the southern gable is two storeys.
The west elevation is rendered and features a symmetrical arrangement of 1:2:1 three-light leaded windows, along with a single light in the attic of the northern gable. A central gabled porch from the 19th century is also present. The east elevation is primarily red brick, which is mostly flared, and has similar leaded casements—two on the ground floor and three on the first floor—each with red brick surrounds and gauged brick heads. There is a 19th-century trellis porch with a hipped slate roof.
The house has two substantial external chimney stacks made of coursed ironstone up to the eaves level, with the upper parts rebuilt in gault brick and featuring paired diagonal shafts. The roof is hipped at the southern end. The southern elevation has a similar external stack with an ironstone base, and there is a rear block that showcases 18th-century chequered brickwork. To the north, there is a single-storey outbuilding from the 19th century.
Inside, the manor has been much altered, but the northern cross-wing retains panelling from around 1700 on the first floor.
