Description

Hill Farmhouse is a house dating from the 16th century, which was refronted around 1800. It has a timber framed structure that is partly recased and partly rebuilt in mottled red brick, topped with a hipped clay tile roof. The building is two storeys high and has a two-room plan, featuring a first-floor jetty at the rear.

The northern elevation, which is the front, has been completely refronted. It includes sash windows with glazing bars set under cambered heads, with two on the ground floor and three on the first floor. The off-centre doorway features a six-panel door beneath a flat hood supported by timber.

On the southern elevation, the ground floor has been rebuilt in brick, while the jettied first floor is finished with pebbledash render. The ground floor has two three-light casements with glazing bars under cambered heads, and the first floor has two two-light casements with glazing bars. There is an off-centre doorway in a slightly projecting bay that has a four-panel door under a cambered head.

At the eastern end of the house is a substantial external stack made of ironstone at the base and brick above, featuring a pair of tall diagonal shafts. The western end has a 19th-century rebuilt chimney in a similar style. Additionally, there is a 20th-century two-storeyed addition at the western end.
