Description
Onion House and Cart Shed is a mid-19th century building that was reroofed in the later 19th century. It features softwood framing with weatherboard cladding and a Welsh slate roof, which was formerly thatched. The structure is two storeys high and consists of four by two bays. The cartshed has square posts with struts, resting on stone pads, and the north and east sides are open while the other sides are weatherboarded. The upper storey contains several slatted drying floors. The north, south, and east sides have three tiers of vertically hinged ventilation flaps, while the west side has two. The south side includes two taking-in doors, with one on the north side, and both east and west gables feature similar doors at the peaks. This building is a specialized type of crop storage and processing facility, unique to the area, and is associated with the predominant crop during the period from around 1850 to 1900.
