Description
Copper Beeches and The Old Rectory is a former rectory that has been divided into two properties. It dates from around 1700, with a late 18th-century addition and refronting, along with some alterations made in 1839 by John Woolfe junior for the Reverend E.R. Williamson. The building is constructed of red brick and features hipped clay tile roofs.
The earliest block, located to the east, is two storeys high, with the addition to the west and the refronting to the south also being two storeys and having attics. The front elevation presents a symmetrical facade with five windows, a first-floor brick band, and a stone-coped parapet. The ground and first floor windows are sashes, which are 19th-century replacements, set under gauged brick flat arches. The attic includes five hipped dormers with casement windows. The central front door consists of six moulded panels, flanked by sidelights and topped by a semi-circular fanlight with radiating glazing bars. This door is set within a gauged brick round-arched opening that features painted impost bands and a keystone. There is a red brick external stack on the left side and a red brick multiple stack on the right side, integrated into the front slope of the roof, likely part of the earlier building.
On the rear elevation, the left-hand block retains its original structure, featuring three wood mullion and transom windows with leaded lights and flat arches. There are blind windows at the centre of the first floor. A late 19th-century canted bay is present on the right-hand side of the ground floor, along with a substantial external stack on the left side. The right-hand later block has windows similar to those on the front elevation and includes a trelliswork verandah along the ground floor. There is also a 20th-century flat-roofed addition on the right side.
