Description

The Church of St Swithun is a large ironstone church with aisles and transepts. The west tower and south aisle arcades are of mediaeval origin, while the majority of the church’s fabric dates to 1860 and is the work of W G Habershon. Inside the chancel, the chapel arcades, chancel arch, and roof corbels feature naturalistic foliage carvings. Several monuments are present, including a white marble statue of Captain Sir William Peel by W Theed, dated 1861.
