Description

Bromham Hall is a house with possible late medieval origins, significantly enlarged in the early 17th century, altered in the 18th century with new windows, and subsequently modified. The construction is of coursed limestone rubble, with an old clay tile roof. The building has a complex plan and stands two and three storeys high with attics.

The west front, which is the main entrance, features a porch leading into the left-hand side of three stone-coped gabled wings. The windows have glazing bars, and some are inserted into larger, previously blocked openings. These three gables connect to another three-storey wing via a main wing, which has a gabled dormer and two long sash windows with glazing bars on the ground floor. To the south of the entrance front, running at right angles and westward, is a two-storey extension with a hipped roof. Its north face has three sash windows with glazing bars to each floor, with two similar windows to the upper floor of the gable end. The south elevation of this extension has five similar windows.

The central part of the east elevation features a projecting semi-circular bay with three sashes, and a longer bay is situated at the right-hand end. The interior is interesting, exhibiting features from various periods and containing much early panelling. The house was formerly the residence of Royalist commander Sir Lewis Dyve, and later the home of Chief Justice Lord Trevor in the early 18th century.
