Description
37, 39 and 41 High Street are three commercial buildings that were refronted around 1790 and altered around 1995. They are three-and-a-half storeys tall and six bays wide, facing west towards High Street, with long extensions to the rear. The buildings have a shared gambrel roof covered in Welsh slate, featuring three dormers with late-20th century casements concealed behind a low parapet wall. Number 41 has a red brick chimneystack on its north gable. The brick walls of the first and second floors, which were refronted around 1790, are laid in Flemish bond and painted. The six bays of windows have flat arches with shallow-projecting keystones on their stone lintels and stone sills. The second floor windows are three-over-three timber sashes, while the first floor windows are six-over-six timber sashes, both with horns. The ground floor shopfronts were replaced around 1995.
