Description

TL 15 NW COLMWORTH CHURCH ROAD CHURCH END Farm building 5/10000 on N side of yard about 70 metres NNE of Manor Farmhouse

Farm building, original function uncertain. Probably C18. Flemish bond red brick with English bond brick plinth. Plain tile roof with half-hipped ends; timber frame in gables; brick eaves cornice. Plan: Long rectangular range facing farmyard, originally without internal partitions and with 2 small doorways at front. Outshut added at rear of left hand end. Exterior: Single storey. Widely spaced 3-window south front with 2 doorways between, the right doorway now a window and the extreme right window is now a doorway; all with cambered brick arch heads. Doorway inserted into left (west) gable end. At rear (north) doorway to left of centre and outshut on right. Small roof lights. The ground (farmyard) at front appears to have been excavated and there is a large C20 ramp to the left doorway. Interior: Later partitions. Roof probably of 4 bays, the one visible truss has raking queen struts to the principal rafters and collar with clasped purlins.
