Description
No. 42 High Street is a house that was formerly an inn, consisting of two buildings that have both been modernised. The south-east part of the structure has origins dating back to the 17th century and is built from limestone rubble with some plastered timber framing. It features pantiles with two lines of slates at the eaves, and it is one storey high with attics, arranged in a two-room plan. There is a modern extension at the rear. The front elevation includes two dormers that rise above the eaves line, and the ground floor has two windows, one of which is a square bay with sash windows.
The north-west building was a former 19th-century inn, rendered with cement quoins and topped with an old tile roof. This part has a double pile plan, with the rear section having a slate roof. It stands two storeys high with attics, featuring a ground floor bay and a gabled attic dormer.
