Description
Nos. 26 and 28 on High Street are a pair of houses built in 1905 as part of the Bedford estate. They are one storey with attics, featuring a ground floor made of red brick banded with purple. The houses have a steeply pitched clay tile roof that extends out over the ground floor at the eaves level. A large central double-pitched gable is prominent, with two 4-light leaded casements. Between these casements is a date plaque that reads "1905 ERECTED BY HIS GRACE THE DUKE OF BEDFORD AND PRESENTED TO THE BEDFORDSHIRE REGIMENT." The plaque includes a depiction of a goat on a crown to the left, a central Tudor rose, and a badge featuring the goat and crown above. The ground floor also has two 5-light leaded casements. These houses are included for their special historic interest.
