Description

This is a war memorial located adjacent to St Mary and All Saints Church, built in 1922. It was designed by G.H. Goodwin and executed by George Brown & Sons. The memorial is made of limestone and features a bronze plaque at the center, along with metal railings. The tablets that display the names of the deceased are arranged against a curved back wall, from which two spur walls with benches extend at right angles. Additional tablets are placed against these walls, recording the names of 146 men and women who lost their lives in World War II.

The central walling is ramped on either side of a small, semi-circular pediment. Below the pediment, there are two inscribed quotations: "THESE DIED THE NOBLEST DEATH / A MAN MAY DIE / FIGHTING FOR GOOD AND RIGHT / AND LIBERTY / AND SUCH A DEATH IS IMMORTALITY" by John Oxenham, and "SO THEY PASSED OVER & ALL THE TRUMPETS / SOUNDED FOR THEM ON THE OTHER SIDE" by John Bunyan. This memorial is part of a significant group that commemorates those who gave their lives in both World Wars, alongside the Sculpture of the Angel of Peace and the Church of All Saints in Kidderminster.
