Description
Puxton Mill is a mill building constructed in the 1860s or 1870s. It is made of English bond brick and features a plain tile roof. The building is positioned against a steep sandstone cliff that borders the river, resulting in four floors facing the river and only one and a half floors on the roadway side. The riverfront consists of five symmetrical bays, with a central door and round-arched, metal-framed windows. The left and right sides of the building are gabled, and the lower wall has a slight batter. Attached to the right side is a three-storey structure with a door and chimney, which may have functioned as a boilerhouse and belt run.
Inside, the floors are supported by solid beams, and there are metal supports and hooks, although these may have been added later. There is no remaining machinery, aside from holes in the walls. Puxton Mill is a notable 19th-century mill building that is simply detailed yet well-proportioned. While it is unfortunate that the machinery has been removed, the floors and iron window frames remain largely intact. This building represents a mid-19th-century type that is becoming increasingly rare in Kidderminster.
