Description
No. 56 Friar Street is a mid-18th century house constructed of painted brick. It has two storeys and attics, featuring two windows with six-pane sashes that have thick bars, flush boxing, moulded sills, and fluted keyblocks. The entrance includes a six-fielded-panel door with glazing, topped by a six-light rectangular fan and a moulded wood hood supported by modillions. On the left side, there is a multi-paned bay window with a moulded wood cornice. High on the facade is a stone armorial panel, and the building has brick modillion eaves. There are two gabled dormers and an old tile roof with gable ends. Nos. 56 to 66 (even) together create a notable group.
