Description
The Old Chestnut Tree Country Club, formerly known as Chestnut House, is a late 16th-century building with a timber frame and roughcast exterior. It stands two stories high with attics. On the right side, there is a projecting wing featuring a gabled upper storey that overhangs on exposed soffits and is supported by curved angle posts. The wing also has carved barge boards, and the gable head is adorned with curved braces. The main block includes large gabled dormers and two wood mullioned windows, while the other windows are modern and feature Art Nouveau glass. The entrance has a modern doorcase, and the roof is covered with old tiles. The Old Chestnut Tree, along with the Post Office and Stores, The Homestead, The Lidhole, and Staddlestone Cottage, forms a group of buildings of historical significance.
